This increase has been largely driven due to sustainability initiatives encouraging the use of wood instead of plastics, the durability of wood in general and the rapid increase in online shopping.

This growth means there are a lot of surplus pallets that people and businesses need to get rid of.

How much is a used pallet worth?

Before going to a pallet merchant it’s useful to know what the used pallet market is like how much your used wooden pallets are actually worth. This will give you a ballpoint figure of what to expect and help with any negotiations with suppliers.

Pallet suppliers typically pay between 50p for an 1100 x 1100mm pallet up to £3.50 for a 1200 x 1000mm pallet – For example, Cash for Pallets will pay up to £2.50 for a 1200 x 1000mm pallet and £3.50 for 1200 x 800mm pallets.

However, it’s hard to get an exact price as most pallet merchants don’t advertise what they will pay for used pallets on their site and instead ask that you contact them for a quote.

This is because there is a number of factors that determine how much a used pallet is actually worth – namely, size, condition and how many pallets you are selling.

Size:

As mentioned pallets come in different sizes which means the price you will get from them will also be different.

Typically UK pallet sizes are:

1200 x 1000mm
1200 x 800mm Euro
1200 x 800 non Euro
1200 x 1200mm
CP’s 1100 x 1100mm

The industry standard size in the UK is 1200 x 1000mm’s (4-way pallets) & 1200 x 800mm Euros pallets. Pallets measuring 1200 x 1000mm are the most valuable whereas CP pallets (used for carton boxes and sacks) tend to be less valuable.

Condition:

Like any product you sell the condition of the item always influences how much it is worth. For example, if a pallet is cracked or has rotted, you will get less than a palette that is in good structural condition and free of defects.

Quantity:

The number of pallets you have for sale will determine how much you get. So you will obviously get more for 100 pallets than you would 10, but the price per unit will be less because of economies of scale.
